In the process of mechanical processing, technicians determine the process to be adopted according to the quantity of products, equipment conditions and the quality of workers, and write the relevant content into the process document. This document is called the process regulation.
In order to facilitate the preparation, execution and production management of process procedures, it is necessary to divide the process into different levels of units. They are process, installation, station, work step and cutting. The working procedure is the basic unit in the process.
The machining process of parts consists of several processes.
Working procedure
A (or a group of) workers, in a working place (or a machine tool), on a (or at the same time to several) workpiece to complete the part of the process is called the process. Processes are classified according to whether the work place changes and the work process is continuous.
For example, when a batch of shafts is processed on a lathe, it is possible to either roughen and finish each shaft continuously, or to roughen the whole batch of shafts first and finish them in turn.
In this case, processing consists of only one process; In the second case, because of a break in the continuity of the process, the process becomes two processes even though it is carried out on the same machine tool.
The working procedure is the basic unit of the technological process and the basic unit of the production plan.

In the machining process, the workpiece on the machine tool or in the fixture to occupy a correct position and be clamped process, known as clamping. Sometimes, the workpiece on the machine tool needs to go through several clamping to complete - a process of work content. Installation refers to the part of the process completed after a workpiece clamping.
For example, in a lathe processing shaft, first from the end of the processing part of the surface, and then turn around to process the other end, then the process content includes two installation.
station
The use of transposition (or shift) fixture, rotary table or in the multi-axis machine tool processing, the workpiece in the machine tool once clamping, if the thousands of positions are processed in turn, the workpiece occupied in each position on the machine tool to complete that part of the process is called the station.
Simply put, the workpiece relative to the machine tool or tool each occupies a processing position to complete that part of the process content, known as the station.
Work step
In the machining surface, cutting tool, cutting speed and feed constant conditions, continuous completion of that part of the process content is called the work step. In production, it is often called "feed".
In order to increase productivity, several cutting tools are used at the same time, several machining surfaces of the work step, known as the compound work step, can also be regarded as a work step.
